Publishing random blog posts is like building a house with bricks but no mortar. Content clusters connect every article to a pillar page, and the whole structure ranks together.
The structure
One pillar page targets the broad head term — for example “performance marketing”. Eight supporting articles each target a long-tail question and link back to the pillar.
Build it in four weeks
- Week 1: map one cluster from real sales questions, not keyword tools alone.
- Week 2: publish the pillar — 2,000+ words, internally linked to nothing yet.
- Week 3: publish four supporting articles, each linking up.
- Week 4: publish four more, then add links from the pillar down.
Why it compounds
When one supporting article earns a link, authority flows through the internal links to every page in the cluster. Individual posts compete; clusters reinforce.
One well-built cluster per quarter is a realistic cadence — and after a year, that is four topic areas where your site is the default authority.
